The Box - New York's hottest Club
A good 100 years after coming into existence, the cabaret is back. New York's trendiest club is not even a club, the varieté show is a modern adaption of an old concept. And even though Americans are not the greatest inventors they are damn good at adapting and re-creating. The atmosphere at the Box is unique. It is housed in a tiny, beautifully restored old theater. The crowd could not be trendier and when the show gets going people go nuts. The show starts at 1am and takes half n hour. Then there is a second show at 2:30am. Some of the acts are very naughty and they did not let me film them. I do not even think I would have blogged them, because, well, just believe me when I say naughty. Who wants to see a drag queen play with a bottle anyway, right? Here are some of the harmless, but nevertheless greatly entertaining acts.
The next video gives you a hint of where some acts are going. Just when it was about to get really hot, the bouncer asked me to switch off the camera.
After some stomping performers, my favourite artist takes the stage. With the mic of my camera it may be hard to notice, but this guy plays the transverse flute, while doing the beat box at the same time. At the end a DJ starts mixes into it and the crowd goes crazy.
I love old style country and I know some of my friends dig it, too.
